Fatima is a 23-year-old Syrian refugee woman in Turkey. She is one of the millions whose life has suddenly changed with the start of the war in Syria in 2011.
Fatima with three children had to migrate from Syria’s Aleppo to Turkey’s Izmir five years ago after being displaced in her country for years due to conflicts.
She gave birth to a baby a week ago, but his 1-year-old child with mental disability suffers from growth retardation.
Fatima is a young mother who has been psychologically harmed by violence, economic and cultural distress during and after the forced migration. Upon the confidence Médecins du Monde (MdM) Turkey staff provided her, she decided to request help from our psychosocial support officers and caseworkers during a fieldwork conducted in coordination with the General Directorate of Public Health.
After a series of stress management and psychosocial support sessions as well as routine medical checks given by MdM Turkey staff in Turkey's Izmir with the support of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), the young woman is now able to look at life with full of hope and is more involved with her children.
“Fortunately, I’ve met MdM Turkey, and you lend me a hand to remain firm. If there’s life, there’s hope. Now, I’ll try harder for my children,’’ Fatima concludes.
