Project Period: 1 September 2022 - 31 August 2023
Project Budget: 80,000$
In this project, Dünya Doktorları (DDD)/Doctors of the World (DoTW) Turkey aims to strengthen the health and safety of Ukrainian refugees by providing them food vouchers and transportation cards to meet their basic needs, while increasing their knowledge of the Turkish legal system and access services such as health care.
Through two Ukrainian translators funded by Donner Foundation, DoTW Turkey's mobile team provides legal information sessions to Ukrainian refugees to orientate them on their rights in Turkey as well as Turkish laws, systems, and how to navigate them. They learn how to register to stay in Turkey; apply for asylum, legally work, and attend schools, among others. DoTW case worker (funded by other partners) also refers Ukrainian refugees to service-providers (other NGOs) who can help them with their registering their legal status in Turkey, particularly if they do not have all their legal documents. DoTW Turkey also inform the Ukrainians of the Turkish health system and how to navigate it.
Additionally, Ukrainian refugees benefit from routine health check within the scope of the project. This is particularly important for elderly people who may have chronic health issues, or pregnant and lactating women. Based on health screenings, DoTW Turkey provides health-oriented protection case management for Ukrainian refugees requiring medical care.
As complementary to BPRM-funded project, that provides health-oriented services to people identified with medical needs, two Ukrainian translators disseminate information on available services and regulation process, as well as accompany beneficiaries to hospitals or other institutions. The coordination between DoTW Turkey and the Ukrainian Solidarity Association supported by Consulate General of Ukraine in Turkey's Istanbul provides an opportunity to refer and follow up both medium and high-risk level cases.
